Churchills Brilliant Oratory
A Pleasure in Words and Hope in the time of despair
On 10th November 1942 Churchill got first opportunity to speak upon the victory at Al Alamein at Mansion House in London after a series of defeats and setbacks since the beginning of world war 2 and a string of losses from Dunkirk.to Singapore .
The master Craftsman ,the brilliant Orator , greatest wartime leader and Statesman came up with one of his most inspiring and memorable play of words ” beginning of end”or ” end of beginning” is like a symphony of Mozart or Beethoven’s music .
Britain and the Allies representing the forces of righteousness and beneficience turned the tide of war after the success in this Battle of Al Alamein in Africa .
We are facing similar situations in present times of lockdown and warlike situation in democracies .
Churchill ended the speech with Lord Byron’s words which apply to doctors and nurses serving the ill and suffering today.
“I recall to you some lines of Lord Byron, which seem to me to fit the event, the hour, and the theme:
“Millions of tongues record thee, and anew
Their children’s lips shall echo them, and say —
“Here, where the sword united nations drew,
Our countrymen were warring on that day!”
And this is much, and all which will not pass away.”
